Course Description

  1. Provide an overview on the patient demographics of death on dying in America
  2. Review how the recent IOM report correlates with the 1995 SUPPORT Study – and the lack of change over a decade
  3. Identify the recommendations made by the IOM to improve the care of patients in the last 2-3 years of life.

This presentation will discuss the following content:

Review the current death and dying demographics in America. Identfiy specific diseases and disorders and concomitant symptoms.

Review place of care at the end of life (hospice, home care, inpatient etc.).

Review the historical data from the infamous SUPPORT study and the initiatives to improve how Americans die and how this correlates with the current IOM findings and report

Describe the recommendations identified by the IOM to improve the care of dying in America
